What Brings People to Therapy
Most people arrive at therapy carrying something they've been managing alone for longer than they should have. It doesn't always look like a crisis. Sometimes it's anxiety that hums quietly in the background — present at work, at home, in the middle of the night. Sometimes it's a relationship that has grown distant, a grief that hasn't fully lifted, or a life transition that looked manageable on paper but feels overwhelming in practice. Sometimes there's no single cause at all, just a persistent sense that something is off and a growing awareness that pushing through isn't working the way it used to.
You don't need to reach a breaking point before asking for support. Therapy is not reserved for the worst moments — it's for anyone who is ready to slow down, look inward, and invest in understanding themselves more deeply. That readiness, in itself, is a form of courage. And it's often the first and most important step.
Hello
I am Maidah Chughtai. Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist.
License #161780
I believe in the intrinsic goodness of all people regardless of background, faith, or culture. Each one of us has the potential to achieve our best self. Through therapy I support clients in developing a deeper understanding of themselves and their patterns of interaction with the world and people around them. My aim is to assist them in discovering the root of their day-to-day challenges and work from within to bring a positive change in their lives. This includes challenges with stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, couple and family relationships, and parenting. I have a deep appreciation for how early childhood experiences, family values and culture shape who we are — and I bring that understanding into my work with clients from diverse backgrounds. I also love working with children and teens ages 3-18.

Why Bluum Therapy
Life in the Bay Area comes with its own particular weight. The pace is relentless, the cost of keeping up is high — financially and emotionally — and there is an ambient pressure to perform, achieve, and appear fine while doing it. For many people, that pressure builds quietly over years before it becomes impossible to ignore.
For some, there is an additional layer: the experience of holding two worlds at once. The expectations of a family or culture rooted somewhere else, the unspoken rules around success and sacrifice, the sense of never quite belonging fully to either place. That kind of weight doesn't always have a name, but it is real, and it deserves space in the room.
I work to understand the whole person in front of me — their pressures, their background, their values, and their faith. Whether you're coming in-person to my Lafayette office or connecting via telehealth from anywhere in California, you'll find a space that is warm, unhurried, and genuinely yours.
